Minutes June 10, 2009 A meeting of the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners was held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex, 25 Market Street, 4th Floor Conference Center, Trenton, New Jersey. The meeting was called to order by President Paul C. Mendelowitz, M.D. PRESENT Board Members Berkowitz, Cheema, Ciechanowski, Criss, Iannuzzi, Lambert, Jordan, Lomazow, Mendelowitz, Nussbaum, Paul, Rajput, Reichman, Stanley, and Weiss. EXCUSED Board Members Bender, DeGregorio, Scott and Walsh ALSO PRESENT Deputy Attorneys General Dick, Ehrenkrantz, Flanzman, Gelber, Hafner, Levine, Puteska and Warhaftig; Executive Director Roeder. STATEMENT CONCERNING THE ANNUAL NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETINGS The requirements of the “Open Public Meetings Act” have been satisfied by notice of this meeting given in the annual notice adopted by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners on September 10, 2008 which was transmitted to the ATLANTIC CITY PRESS, STAR LEDGER, CAMDEN COURIER POST, ASBURY PARK PRESS, BERGEN RECORD and the TRENTON TIMES, all on the 1st day of October 2008. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Nominating Committee announced the following slate of officers.
President - Dr. Paul Mendelowitz Any additional nominations can be made from the floor when the elections are conducted at the July Board meeting. MINUTES THE BOARD, UPON MOTION MADE AND SECONDED, VOTED TO APPROVE THE MAY 13, 2009 OPEN BOARD MINUTES. NEW BUSINESS 1. ASSEMBLY BILL NO. 3976 The bill seeks to require physician’s practices that provide intravenous therapies in medical office to register with DHSS. Dr. Paul recused from discussion and vote in the matter and left the table. THE BOARD, UPON MOTION MADE AND SECONDED, VOTED TO TAKE NO POSITION CONCERNING THIS BILL. IT NOTED THAT EXISTING REGULATIONS ADDRESS MANY, IF NOT ALL, OF THE CONCERNS SOUGHT TO BE REMEDIATED BY THE LEGISLATION. 2. SENATE BILL 2800 The bill seeks to require physicians to provide patients the opportunity to view obstetrical ultrasounds or sonograms prior to performing abortion. Dr. Paul recused from discussion and vote in the matter and left the table. THE BOARD, UPON MOTION MADE AND SECONDED, VOTED TO OPPOSE THE BILL AS THERE WAS NO MEDICAL REASON TO HAVE THE PATIENT VIEW THESE TESTS. OLD BUSINESS Nothing Scheduled.
