Protect Themselves Against Fraud
LITTLE FALLS "The State Division of Consumer Affairs on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 will hold a two-hour presentation on fraud awareness and protection for senior citizens at the Little Falls Civic Center. Area senior citizens are invited to attend.
The State Division of Consumer Affairs developed "FedUp: The Senior Fraud Education and Protection Program" to empower senior citizens and help them protect themselves against scams including home improvement fraud, telemarketing and mail fraud, and investment fraud. The first 100 seniors who participate will receive booklets with important information on how to detect and avoid these and other scams.
"FedUp helps seniors empower themselves against those who seek to victimize them, devalue their standard of living, and swindle them out of hard-earned money. The Division of Consumer Affairs is here to help seniors fight back. With basic awareness, detailed information, and easy-to-follow tips, we are helping New Jersey"s seniors become smart, self-protected consumers," Thomas R. Calcagni, Acting Director of the State Division of Consumer Affairs, said.
