The March 12, 2025 public meeting will be conducted electronically only, as authorized by P.L. 2020, c.11 (N.J.S.A. 10:4-9.3), using a virtual meeting platform. ALERT 

On June 6, 2021, the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs issued an Administrative Order 2021-15, which rescinds a previous Administrative Order, AO-2020-20, which required licensed veterinarians to follow protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Under AO-2021-15, the protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19 will change from a requirement imposed by Order to recommendations for best practices.  Please read and familiarize yourself with the requirements of this order.


The State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners was established on March 17, 1902. This board licenses and regulates veterinarians in New Jersey.

The purpose of the Board is to:

  • supervise the practice of veterinary medicine, surgery and dentistry;
  • ensure that veterinary medicine is performed in a manner consistent with acceptable medical and ethical standards; and
  • adjudicate consumer complaints against licensees.

How does the Board accomplish its pur​pose?

  • by ensuring that all veterinarians have met the educational requirements, passed accredited clinical competency and jurisprudence examinations, and are of good moral character;
  • by investigating and prosecuting veterinarians who have deviated from acceptable standards of practice; and
  • by requiring all veterinarians practicing in New Jersey to be licensed and registered by the State and to renew their registrations every two years.
