Proposed Regulation – Board of Nursing

NEWARK – The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has proposed amendments to the rules regarding the dispensing of medications by Advanced Practice Nurses.

The proposal requires advanced practice nurses who dispense pharmaceutical samples to patients to label the samples with the complete name of the medication dispensed, the strength and quantity of the medication dispensed, instructions as to the frequency of use, special precautions, if appropriate, and the expiration date of the medication. Advanced practice nurses will not be required to label samples when manufacturers have already included this information on the samples.

The proposed regulation, and information on how to submit a comment by August 19, 2016, can be viewed at: http://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/Proposals/Pages/06202016-Nursing-Proposal.aspx
