Proposed Regulation – Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers
NEWARK – The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has proposed amendments to regulations regarding qualifications for journeymen plumbers and individuals performing work for plumbing contractors. The proposal also revises standards for licensed master plumber licensing examinations, applications, and continuing education.
The proposed amendments recognize that in order to be a journeyman plumber, an individual has to complete the education requirements for licensure, and require that unlicensed individuals performing plumbing work for a plumbing contractor be employees whose remuneration is reported to the Internal Revenue Service. Proposed amendments to examination requirements remove reference to a specific entity that provides the examination and establish timeframes for the abandonment of an application for licensure. A licensed master plumber who completes continuing education as a licensed plumbing inspector will be able to use such continuing education credits to satisfy four of the five credits required for renewal of Board licensure.
