Proposed Regulation – Board of Court Reporting
NEWARK – The Board of Court Reporting has proposed amendments to regulations regarding applications for temporary registered reporters and certified court reporters.
Existing regulations can be interpreted as allowing unregistered and uncertified individuals to practice court reporting in order to qualify for registration. The regulations can also be interpreted as prohibiting individuals who passed the certification examination prior to 2006 from obtaining certification.
The proposed amendments address these concerns by removing a requirement that applicants for registration as temporary registered reporters provide proof that they have practiced court reporting for three of the last five years. The proposed amendments also remove a provision which requires applicants to take the certification examination on or after May 1, 2006.
