State Board of Applied Behavior Analyst Examiners

Board meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month and commence at 9:30am. Specific meetings dates, public agendas, and links to the virtual meetings are available on the Board’s website under Meetings.

The New Jersey Board will offer two levels of licensure: Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst (LBA) and Licensed Assistant Applied Behavior Analyst (LaBA). The following items will be required at initial licensure (these items may be subject to slight modification with the formal adoption of the regulations):

Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst (LBA)

• A completed license application provided by the Board;
• Proof that the applicant holds a master's degree or doctoral degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education;
• Proof that the applicant holds current certification as a BCBA or BCBA-D; and
• Completion of the online jurisprudence orientation

Licensed Assistant Applied Behavior Analyst (LaBA)

• A completed license application provided by the Board;

• Proof that the applicant holds a bachelor's degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education;
• Proof that the applicant holds a current certification as a BCaBA;
• The identity of the licensed applied behavior analyst who will supervise the applicant; and

• Completion of the online jurisprudence orientation 

While licensure cannot be guaranteed, the qualifications in NJ will be substantially similar to the requirements of other states. An application will become available to the public after the regulations have been approved.

The Board does not comment on specific coursework. The Board requires certification through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), and is not responsible for selecting or approving ABA course sequences. For additional information about the BACB certification requirements, please visit www.bacb.com.

Yes, fees will be determined by the state licensing Board through the regulatory process and are used solely to cover the costs of operating the board.
