The Board of Physical Therapy Examiners licenses and regulates the field of physical therapy. The board licenses physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.

The purpose of the Board is to:

  • protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of New Jersey;
  • investigating and prosecuting physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who have broken the state’s consumer protection laws; and
  • ensure that physical therapy is performed in compliance with State law.
 

The Board protects the public by:

  • ensuring that physical therapist and physical therapist assistants meet all educational requirements for licensure;
  • investigating and prosecuting physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who have broken the state’s consumer protection laws; and
  • requiring all physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to be licensed by the state and to renew their licenses every two years.
