Participating Programs – Continuing Education Credit Waiver for Volunteer Mental Health Services

On February 22, 2021, the Acting Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs issued Administrative Order 2021-09, Waiver-2021-05, which permits licensed or certified mental health professionals to satisfy continuing education credits by providing services free of charge through an organization that provides mental health services, including crisis intervention and referrals, to low-income, uninsured individuals or to individuals in crisis.

Those who provide volunteer services will satisfy one continuing education credit for every two hours of qualifying services they provide, up to a certain cap that will vary by their license type, as noted in the Order and the Division’s FAQ. The licensed or certified mental health professionals who can satisfy continuing education credits through this program are: marriage and family therapists; associate marriage and family therapists; professional counselors; associate professional counselors; rehabilitation counselors; clinical alcohol and drug counselors; certified alcohol and drug counselors; art therapists; physicians; advanced practice nurses; psychologists; State-certified psychoanalysts; and clinical social workers.

The following entities have informed the Division that they qualify under the Order and are interested in accepting volunteers.

Any organization wishing to be added to this list should email the Division at: MentalHealthInitiative@dca.njoag.gov.
