Computer Scams

For many senior citizens, computers are a gateway to the world, allowing them to shop, meet new people, and learn about exciting places without having to leave the house. Unfortunately, computers can also become a two-way portal that also gives wily thieves access to seniors and others. Criminals often use email and the internet to reach seniors with fraudulent offers of lottery winnings, prizes, and assistance with paying their bills, while remaining completely anonymous. Seniors who aren’t familiar with how scams or computers work are often tricked into giving thieves access to their finances and personal information. Before senior citizens log onto the internet, they should be able to recognize these common computer scams and take precautions to avoid them.
