New Jersey State Board of Dentistry Suspends License of Monmouth County Dentist Accused of Installing Surveillance Cameras in Dental Office Bathroom

NEWARK – The New Jersey State Board of Dentistry, within the State Division of Consumer Affairs, has temporarily suspended the license of a Monmouth County dentist who was arrested following allegations that surveillance cameras were surreptitiously installed in the bathroom of his dental office used by patients and staff.

Howell Township Police arrested Dr. Scott M. Meltzer on April 10 at his office in the township.  He is charged with five third-degree counts of invasion of privacy.

The State Board of Dentistry in its Consent Order noted that Meltzer denies the allegations, but agreed to the temporary suspension of his license to practice dentistry in New Jersey.  Meltzer's license will remain suspended pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings and further order of the Board.

"A dentist's first responsibility is to care for the health and well-being of the public.  These allegations are deeply troubling, and the Board of Dentistry took the right action in response to the criminal charges," Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa said.

Consumers who believe they have been cheated or scammed by a business, or suspect any other form of consumer abuse, can file an online complaint with the State Division of Consumer Affairs by visiting its website or by calling 1-800-242-5846 (toll free within New Jersey) or 973-504- 6200.
