Architect Application Phases and Timeline
Phase I
Current Timeframe:
2-4 weeks

Phase I is the estimated time between receipt of a completed application (online or paper) and receipt of supplemental documentation. No fingerprints for the background check is required. |
Phase II Current Timeframe: 3-5+ weeks
Please note: At this phase the Board would approve the applicant's application for approval to begin taking the Architect Registration Exam – ARE. Subsequent to the Board approval it may take an applicant:
2 – 5 years before completing all the exam divisions (currently six (6) exam divisions must be passed within a five (5) year time frame period) before becoming eligible for licensure. |
Phase II is the estimated time between Phase I and the receipt of the vendor NCARB & receipt of the NCARB council record and additional information ie. Checked-off "Yes" to Crime Question on application, Checked-off "Yes" to the, if necessary, and the Board's initial review of the application and supplemental documentation.

Phase III Current Timeframe:
2-4 weeks for the Board to be notified by the vendor and an updated application to the applicant is received.
1-2 weeks for board approval and letter & licensing form regarding fees to be sent to applicant 2 weeks to any number of years waiting for payment from applicant to complete licensing process |
Phase III is estimated time between Phase II preparing cover sheet for application information for Board review and approval. Subsequent to the applicant completing all the exam divisions for licensure and the updated application has been received and reviewed at the next possible board meeting – board meets one (1) day per month. Upon Board approval of the application, a congratulations letter and license fee invoice will be emailed. Once the license fee is paid, the license number will be issued and applicant should receive the hard copy license in the mail within 10-15 business days. |
