Resumption of Electrology Services

On June 13, 2020, the Governor signed Executive Order 154, permitting the resumption of electrology services as of 6:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020. Such services may be performed pursuant to Division of Consumer Affairs Administrative Order 2020-07, which establishes standards for the safe provision of in-person, office-based health care and requires licensees to follow protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please read and familiarize yourself with the requirements of this order.

The Electrologists Advisory Committee, which falls under the supervision of the State Board of Medical Examiners, is charged with licensing electrologists and electrology offices, approving electrology education programs throughout the State, adopting standards for courses in continuing professional education, and conducting inspections and investigations of the premises of electrology offices in New Jersey.

The purpose of the Board is to:

  • protect the health, safety and welfare of the people of New Jersey;
  • regulate the practice of electrology; and
  • ensure that electrology is performed in compliance with State law.

The Board protects the public by:

  • making sure that electrologists meet all educational requirements for licensure;
  • investigating and prosecuting electrologists who have broken the state's consumer protection laws; and
  • requiring all electrologists to be licensed by the state and to renew their licenses every two years.
