Temporary Permits

• Application for a Temporary Permit
  Please be advised that due to the temporary suspension of practical examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs has issued Administrative Order 2020-16 and Waiver 2020-15 (DCA AO-2020-16 W-2020-15), which extends the validity of temporary permits issued by the Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling (“Board”). The Order and Waiver provide that temporary permits issued by the Board that have expired since March 9, 2020, when the State of Emergency and Public Health Emergency were declared, are reinstated and will remain valid for a year beyond the original expiration date. Additionally, temporary permits issued by the Board that would expire on or after September 1, 2020 are extended for a year beyond the original expiration date.

Prometric has been awarded the contract to administer the written licensing examinations on behalf of the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling beginning August 3, 2020. All candidates must be pre-approved to take an examination. Your education provider will electronically upload your eligibility to Prometric upon successful completion of the course requirements. Each candidate will receive an email confirmation immediately after the eligibility has been received by Prometric. Upon receipt of the email confirmation, please go to Prometric SMT www.isoqualitytesting.com or call Toll Free Number 1-866-773-1114, or email, registrations@isoqualitytesting.com to pay and schedule your examination.
